Not sure what sort of weird scifi movies you've seen recently (maybe some of those crappy ones that the SyFy channel produces??
).I was actually on Adak the last year the naval air facility was open, and turned it over to the native Aleut corporation that took it over from the navy. In fact, the building at the lower right hand of the picture you linked was the community center, if I remember right, where the "ships store" was located while I was there (where we could get the limited amounts of groceries and other staple items they brought in for us to buy). If I'm correct about that, then the house I lived in was only ~50 yards to the left of the left side of that picture. Great housing, very well built, and on earthquake mounts (which came in handy when we had a 7.7 earthquake, followed by a 7.2 aftershock the next morning!!).
Let me tell you, the salmon run rocked on that island......5 gazillion salmon trying to get back up stream to spawn, 500 residents on the island at that time. Pick & choose, to the max!! :thumbsup:
