Weird MySQL problem

Ok folks I'm working with a server that I'm trying to setup for Psychostats and HLStats for another person. Normally this is an easy install for me but with this server it's becoming a pain. I did not setup this person's server so I'm not entirely certain what's on it or how secure it is. For that matter I'm not even sure of the linux distribution. From the way its setup it looks like it's either Fedora Core or Red Hat Linux Enterprise. In any case the issue I'm having is that the root user for the MySQL database keeps having its password reset every 2-3 minutes. And I have not been able to figure out why this is happening. I do not see any processes that could be causing this but then again perhaps I'm missing something. I've looked through the logs and while there are a bunch of failed SSH login attempts I don't see anything else that could indicate where this is coming from. Does anybody have any idea where I should look or what is causing this?
 
Looked in the crontab files, nothing that I could see that would be changing the MySQL root user password. The server is at a hosting company and I do believe it is at the same hosting company I use for my server, namely The Planet (http://www.theplanet.com). And my server has never had these issues. I know the server has a cpanel interface installed although I have not worked with it since I do not have an account on it. Not even sure if that could be the cause of the problem but I thought I'd throw that in.
