Hey I've got a NEC FE950 monitor and lately its been acting weird. Sometimes the picture jitteres and moves around for a bit then goes back to normal. That started happening a little while ago. Now the monitor is getting really weird. Sometimes the picture shrinks then gets really big kinda liek I just switched resolutions but no sound or anything if you know what i mean. Also just liek 5 minutes ago it completly turned off and then came back on again liek when u switch res. I'm not sure if this is my video card or a failing monitor (it just did it again got small tehn big again). Let me know what you guys think. I've contacted NEC via e-mail but no response yet.

Thanks for the help,

I'll most likely sound dumb, but whatever.

First make sure you have your newest video drivers.
If you know anyone with a good 3D card, new or old.. See if you can borrow it, and put it in yuor system.. To find out if its your monitor or video..
If thats not possible then try formatting the HD.. It most likely wont work, but you may have some weird virus..

97.5% chance it's a defective monitor.. :) Did this just start happening or has it been happening since you got the monitor..?

You didn't mention your OS, but if it starts happening alot, boot into Safe Mode and see if it still gets screwy, that eliminates all driver issues. From here it looks like a monitor going bad. I keep an old PCI Cirrus Logic VGA card around for situations like this. You could call around maybe find one for $10 for testing.

I have a GF2 right now on Windows ME and latest drivers. It just started happening. It was workin fine for a about a year then all of a sudden this. I think it's dying but I'm not sure. Maybe interference from something.

tapping it makes it 'ripple' kind of. I think that's typical of aperature grille monitors.

I ask because my monitor was getting lines through the screen, but I was too cheap to pay the shipping to send it back for warranty coverage, opened it up and re-applied silver bearing solder to all the components attached to heatsinks and the problem went away.
