Weird Keyboard Problem

I've had to reinstall Windows on a new HDD after my old one developed bad sectors due to an electricity blackout, and all was going fine until I installed some games (namely, DiRT, GP4, Guild Wars, and Virtua Tennis 3). They launched fine, but once you're in the game, in order to press a keyboard button, you need to hold down ctrl or shift or alt with that button in order for it to work. This does not occur with other games (Medieval 2 and rfactor), and when it does occur and i hold down the shift button, I get a BSOD after 2 minutes or so.

This has not occurred with me before, and I've checked all accessibility options and made sure they were turned off. I even uninstalled the accessibility options in order to make sure nothing was messed up.

I've also noticed that in Guild Wars, while chatting, you can press the keys normally, but once back in the game, such as movement, you need to go back to pressing Shift/Alt/Ctrl.

I've tried switching the KB to another port, which seemed to work fine for about 10 seconds, before the problem happened again. I also tried another PS/2 keyboard which also had the same problem.

Any suggestions are welcome. I have a Microsoft Digital Media Pro KB and Windows XP SP2. Formatting/reinstalling Windows is not an option though. Thanks!

disable the annoying keyboard help for the Dissabled people

go to control panel, and accessibility support, or whatever it is called, is the icon with the wheelchair

Already been done:

"This has not occurred with me before, and I've checked all accessibility options and made sure they were turned off. I even uninstalled the accessibility options in order to make sure nothing was messed up. "

Did you install the drivers/software for the keyboard? Even though Windows may have detected the keyboard well enough to make it work for basic functions, the keyboard itself might need to have special drivers installed before it will behave properly in games.

Yes, I did install the drivers. Perhaps it's the basic keyboard driver in system32 that's been corrupted? Is that possible? If it is, can it be replaced?
