weird issue with wireless router

Hey all,

We have comcast and a Netgear WGT624 v2 router. We have out main comp hooked up to that (wired), and I have my laptop with a wireless connection (intel 54g wireless).

Anyway, it usually works fine, and I can use bandwidth intensive stuff on my laptop (like newsgroups, bandwidth tests, etc), but if I try and go to a page with a lot of pictures or load a torrent to download, it basically overloads the router, and causes both comps to lose their internet connection.

I am not a networking guru, but I am assuming that when I use too many connections (maybe firefox uses a new connection for each pic it loads?....BT is self explanatory with peers/seeds et al) the router can't handle it.

Is there any way to change some setting on the router so this doesn't happen?

TIA

EDIT: had to fix the model number....must have had a brain fart
