This morning while I was sleeping I suddenly heard my computer restarting (going through all the beeps, etc.) for some odd reason. I got up and waited for it to reboot so I could check the temps of my CPU/case and make sure that my fans were spinning correctly and that it wasn't heat related.
Well, for some reason there was no picture on the screen so I couldn't check. Everything else seemed okay as far as I could tell.. there were sounds, I could input stuff into the keyboard, etc. I thought maybe my video card failed or something, so to check I shut down the computer, turned the monitor off, unpluged the monitor from the computer, and turned the monitor back on. Still no picture... it should have given me an error about the signal cable not being connected or something. I kept turning the monitor on and off but it never seemed to power up all the way like it's suppose to (some monitors usually make that sound like it's getting shocked by static electricty when you first turn it on, you know? It never did that.)
So I fully powered down the system (turned off outlet strip), waited a few seconds, and then tried again and the monitor powered up this time, showed me that error message about the signal cable and everything. I reconnected the monitor to the computer, rebooted, and now everything seems to be working fine.
I'm just wondering:
A) What might have caused my computer to reboot randomly?
B) Why didn't my monitor show anything and not fully power up until I reset the power?
I don't know what could have caused it! Power surge? Abnormal voltage? It was sitting here idle like it does every night with the monitor turned off by Window's power saving (posisbly caused the problem with my monitor?) when it randomly rebooted, so I don't think it was heat related and my CPU temp was 111 when I finally got back into windows (case temp 78). I think this might have happened once before too because I heard it rebooting one night, but I was half asleep when I checked the computer so I don't remember if the screen was black or not.. I just remember fully powering it down and going back to bed.
Give me your ideas!
Thanks,
Andrew
