Weird HL2 Benchmarks with 6800GT

I just got done running some benchies with my 6800GT@stock and the results are a little weird. Here is what I got:

1280x1024 4AA/8AF, Max detail, Reflect All

at_canals_08---- 62.5 FPS
at_coast_05----- 81.0 FPS
at_coast_12----- 70.5 FPS
at_prison_05---- 76.2 FPS

1600x1200 6AA/16AF, Max detail, Reflect All

at_canals_08---- 58.0 FPS
at_coast_05----- 76.1 FPS
at_coast_12----- 65.0 FPS
at_prison_05---- 70.3 FPS

1024x768 0AA/Trilinear, Max detail, Reflect World

at_canals_08---- 80.9 FPS
at_coast_05----- 82.6 FPS
at_coast_12----- 78.0 FPS
at_prison_05---- 86.1 FPS

To me the fps I got at max settings look too high and the low settings look too low. I'd think there would be a bigger gap in fps between the max and low settings. Is there a certain way I need to set up the video options when I timedemo? Do these look right?

Nvidia cards do not support 6xMS AA, if you select it in the game menu, it will default to no AA instead.

Thanks. That's good to know. I'll rebench and post the results compared to an x800XT P.E. and a 9800 Pro.

Any idea why my benchmarks at 1024x768 weren't up in the 100's?

You may be CPU limited.

Well, I was comparing my results with Anandtech's results and while I know a 4000+ will eat my chip for lunch, do you really think it would make a 50 FPS difference?

The only other difference I can see is that they used the 67.02 drivers and I'm using the 66.93's.

hmm, good point, i still think you should be tipping 100fps @1024 w/no aa or af, try the 66.93's like you said

I'm using the 66.93s now. I thought about switching to the 60.72s but in an article from X-bit Labs they state that the difference between the two drivers was around 1-3 fps which is basically within the margin of error.

How are other benches with these settings? Maybe its more then just hl2. Possibly u could also redo your driver installation.

V-sync is disabled. I'll try a few other games and see how they run. I did use driver cleaner before I installed the 66.93s.

I have a system with similar set-up as yours and here's my Half-Life 2 Anandtech tests.

1024x768, all settings same as Anandtech testing (No AA, Trilinear, Everything High except Reflect World, V-Sync off)

Canals 94.07
Coast05 94.01
Coast12 90.97

Athlon 64 3200+ (2.2GHz, 512K L2)
ASUS K8v
1GB DDR PC3200 Corsair Value Select
EVGA Geforce 6800 GT (350/1000, 66.93 drivers, Quality setting)

Other benchmarks 1024x768, V-sync off
Counter-strike Source Stress Test 125 FPS (4xAA, 8xAF)
Doom 3 Timedemo 69 FPS (High, 4xAA, 8xAF)
