Weird GAIM problem

I have installed on a Windows XP and a Suse 8.1 machine and am getting the same problem on both: all protocols work fine except ICQ. My buddies don't show up as being online, although they are. On the XP machine everything works fine in Trillian. What should i do?

What other programs could i use on the Linux machine? I need AIM, ICQ, MSM and Yahoo.
