Question Weird extra partitions in new hard drives

My boss usually buys external drives and we take the hard disk and sell the box. But now he noticed that some of the disks have a weird 200mb EFI partition and 33 mb free in the end. He is a sort of obsessive guy and first blamed me, and then started to get angry at those partitions and made me move 9 TB of data just to get rid of them in one of the new drives. Why would a new hard drive (specially external ones) include such partitions?

External HDDs, come pre-partitioned and pre-formatted, usually for Windows, so that they are ready-to-use to store data on out-of-the-box.

The fact that your boss "blames you" for that is pretty circumspect. Sorry to hear that.
