Weird DVD Rom, CD-RW drive, DVD-R drive question

I have all three in my computer and when I try to start up a game it says put cd in the cd rom and then retry (the cd is already and its a legit bought copy, not a burned thing). Then when i click retry it boots up. My question is whats up with my drives?? I think this is effecting my ipod! I plug in my ipod, it shows up in my computer, then disappears. its like the computer stops accessing the drives and my ipod

Also, if anyone knows, I want to make keep checking my Ipod rather than right away deactivate it so it disappears from My Computer.
