Weird Doom Clone era game that was on a PC Gamer demo disk

Since there's a number of "What game am I talking about" threads I thought I'd throw my own in here. Probably in 1996 (possibly 1995 or 1997-1998) I had a PC Gamer demo disk and I remember installing a doom-like sprite based FPS from it onto a 486 machine at school. I can't remember anything about the name, but I do remember that there were at least three classes or races you could play as, and one of them was actually a cow-man hybrid...which I believe was called a "Mooman" in game.

I don't even think it was a good game, but its stuck in my head and its driving me nuts that I can't find it.
 
Nope...I mean heretic and hexen both had a minotaur enemy, but you could play the mooman in this game. It was similar kind of graphics to those games though. I played a lot of hexen.
 
I can't think of anything with the little details you gave us, maybe someone else will find out what game it is. Can you remember other things from the game? There's been tons of DOOM clones and sprites-based FPS games over time, but only a very small portion of them have a multi-race/character/faction feature (I.E being able to chose between two or more characters, factions or races before starting the game). And since it was a demo in a magazine then it's possible that the final product didn't make it (just saying it's possible).
 
There was at one point an entire website dedicated to naming video games that people could not remember the name of. Unfortunately I can't find it anymore. They had an entire system where people would submit the game description, and others would then post guesses and/or screenshots from the game they thought it might be and the original poster would then mark it as solved if someone had the correct answer. There was also a database of common (or uncommon) games that people frequently ask about.

I know a site where people do that. It is called the Anandtech PC Gaming Forum.
 
I checked the idea some people posted, unfortunately none of them matched up. I did some digged through moby game descriptions from what I thought was the right time period but didn't hit paydirt their either. There were a surprising amount of games though, and I admit I didn't have time to check them all.

I know, its not much...I thought for sure 'Mooman' would find it while I was searching and googling, but that seems to turn up nothing close. It is possible it never made it to release form...however given that it showed up on the PC Gamer demo disk that seems kind of unlikely.

I don't have much else to go with...the graphics were roughly doom to Duke3d quality (hopefully my faded memory has not elevated them) It had multiple platform heights, like doom...so it wasn't like wolf 3d where there's uncolored floors with no vertical movement at all in the game.

One of the weapons (not necessarily the Mooman/Cowman's, I cannot remember any other races right now) was a crossbow...there was possibly some kind of club.

When you picked your class/race it showed a fullscreen picture, probably with stats...since it was a FPS game this is obviously the only reason I know the Mooman existed. He was pretty much just a man body with a cow head. The fact some one brought such a stupid concept to fruition is what interests me most...the game seemed to take itself pretty seriously otherwise. The graphics were not particularly cartoony.

I had the same coverdisc all that time ago and I was sure it was called 'Greed'... after googling and checking youtube, etc... (as I couldn't find THAT coverdisk, although I did uncover several others from the period) I found that the game was released as In Pursuit of Greed featuring the character you mentioned (among others)

Ha! Awesome, that was it! I'd actually seen that title on a game list or two when I was searching and although it sounded like it might be it, when I read the game synopsis it didn't sound like it was the right game. But that picture of the mooman says it all, and the screenshots of the game look like a match.

Thanks for taking the time to register and post, I searched through my stash of cover disks last week but I had apparently tossed that one long ago.
