Weird defragmentation on p166 machine with win98

Hello, i have an old p166 system with win98 se running on it and i have notice something weird and annoying.

When i defrag my old p166 system after only abouy 2 days of use which only consists of WEB BROWSING, it takes a very, very, very long time. And the reason why it takes a long time is because i see alot of data scattered all over the screen.

Now i have a 1.6 GB hdd, with win98 SE running and with 64 megs of ram. Now when i was running this machine full time with games, etc, etc about 2 years ago, i don't remember defragging taking so long. Could it just be win98???

before defraging, clear your cache, empty the file in your recycle bin and any files that are in the windows/temp directory.

do you happen to have it connected to DSL, a cable modem or networked?
try pullting the cat5 cable out of the ethernet card and watch as your defrag rate increases dramatically.

Hmm that's a good idea niccolt. I'll run that windows hdd cleaner prog or whatever that cleans out the temporary internet files folder, etc, etc.

And no Grimnlac, i am on a modem connection but i'll definately try that on my other computer. Thanks all.
