"Well much like the title to the thread says i had a weird day cashing a check. [I cashed a $200 check and they gave me $1800 extra] So would ya have given the money back????....The bank called me at home about the money late this evening and i told them i had the money and intended to return it and I will, but I feel this shouldn't go unchecked considering and I feel if i just returned the money and didn't 1 document it and 2 didn't press this issue at the bank it will happen again...all this while peoples trust in the banking establishment is already on edge. Besides would you have just given the money back to the same teller unchecked????"

"I Just got back from the bank...They are trying to sweep it under the rug, but this time i'm not letting go....The bank manager was actually rude to me ....I give them their 1800 and they are freaking rude Now i'm mad and this is gonna get nasty."

This actually happened to a friend of mind but he wants to raise everyones awareness around the subject -- why bail out financial institutions if they are just going to be idiots to their customers? Please DIGG it for support guys

Yes, I'd have given the money back. In fact, I'd have mentioned it while standing in the bank, since I always count what I'm given at the counter.

I most certainly would NOT have tried to get 5 seconds of internet fame by making such a gigantic deal out of it, posting both on youtube and digg. Your friend is a douche.
 
Its not that it was a mistake, its when he was HONEST about it when it was brought it to their attention they were unbelievably RUDE to him.......

....After all it could have been YOUR money the teller gave away hm?

Bottom line is: this kind of thing seems to happen all too often. Again with financial institutions in the state they are don't you think it is something that needs to begin to be documented?

He isn't going for fame as he doesn't even mention his name or specific address or anything so I don't understand your point

He made a video about it, mentioning he thought he should be rewarded for doing the right thing (that is it's own reward). He did this BEFORE going to the bank. My guess is he asked about a monetary reward and was pissed when the declined to pay him off with anything more than a thank you.

He's quoting his friend, who's all rowled up because a bank teller gave him $2,000 when he cashed his $200 check. He's flabbergasted by the $1,800 difference and has no idea how it ever could have happened in this day and age, and further outraged because his tiny local bank is giving away federal bailout money like this. He then talks about how there should be a reward system for people who do the right thing, suggesting he should be paid for returning the cash.

What I see is a teller who saw one more zero than is there and made a mistake. I see a guy who saw the cash going into the envelope at the counter and didn't say anything about it, but later decided to make a video about it and try to get a little internet fame. In the video he knows he's gotta do the right thing, but probably asked the bank manager for a reward and is mad because he got shot down.

The "friend" is a douche. I would simply have pointed it out to the teller at the time it happened and move on. People make mistakes.

Good people point out the mistake, and allow the offender to correct it.

Douche people make a federal case out of it and are pissed when they don't personally benefit from the mistake.
 
while everyone is whining about people doing thing wrong, those same people are trying do everything they can to beat the system.

I am not sure where people got the idea that if someone makes a mistake they are entitled to whatever the error was.

And speaking of federal cases, if this pant-load friend of yours doesn't return the money pronto, he WILL be arrested, and charged with a FEDERAL, FELONY THEFT.
Today, the bank might seem a bit rude, (and rightfully so), tomorrow the shit hits the fan.

Whether the "friend" is really a friend of the OPs or the OP is really the "friend", whoever it is...that person is a retard.

It is clear as day that the guy KNEW he received $2000 and not $200. Instead of just immediately returning the money, he decides to act like an idiot and makes this stupid video.

Lame.
 
Sounds like he thought it was his lucky day and turned out not to be so he's pissed off. Whatever, that's life. Shouldn't have really expected to keep the $1800.
