Weird CS:Source bug...anyone else notice this?

I just got CS:Source a couple days ago. I was benchmarking my system with the video stress test that is included with it, and was getting low scores compared to my friend who has the same system as me, except that instead of a 9700 pro he has a 9700 non pro. He was getting a good 10-15fps average more than me. I then realized that it was because my system still had vertical sync forced on in my control panel (I notice quite a bit of tearing during gaming without it), so I asked him to enabled vsync on his rig to see how we would compare. For giggles, he turned on 2xAA and put his shadow detail to low.

Now for the bug...he runs the video stress test, and tiles and surfaces are all bright purple. He thought I had just caused him to damage his card, so he quickly exited the game and returned his settings to default. I thought that was a very strange occurence, so when I came home today I tried to replicate it on my setup, and sure enough, I was able to.

With my 3D settings in my control panel set to application preference, I enabled vsync, 2xAA, and low shadow details in CS:S one by one, running the video stress test each time I enabled one of those features. Sure enough, on the final one, enabling vsync in the options, I ran the video stress test and all my tiles and surface textures were bright purple. As soon as I turn vsync off, the artifacts go away, but they require both AA and low shadow details in addition to vsync just to appear. If I set vsync and AA in my control panel, I get no issues whatsoever, even if I have low shadow detail enabled in CS:S. Can anyone else replicate/confirm this?

I'm using the 2.5.90 Omega drivers (4.10s).

My friend got that weird purple effect on his 9800Pro as well, I'll try it on my GT later tonight and let you know if it's an ATi driver thing or the game itself.

It is the enviromentmaping layer of the texture being replaced with Valve's "no-texture" texture and it happens due to various reasons on various setups.

I got that with my 5950 Ultra. You get it if you run the stress test twice in a row.

Maybe on a 5950U... I've run the stress test 5 times in a row before with no such issues.

Off-topic, but for CSS on my R9800P I find that turning on 2x AA makes framerate unacceptable in the water-filled parts of maps - for those that have water. In particular, the Chateau one which features quite a number of water filled paths (start area for T). Sucks to have a firefight with CTs in those areas, with the framerate running 35fps average, and thats running at 440/375 - probably sub-30 at stock.

I'm finding my system hurting quite a bit with the game. I get about 40-50 fps average with 2xAA/4xAF at 10x7 on my 9700 pro. I keep wishing my video card could manhandle this game like it does with the original HL based games :)
Chateau definitely lags during fights in the water, but the water looks so good!

it still looks good with AA turned off... and the water scene runs at 50-60 average. basically all of the CSS levels are perfect at 10x7 with aa turned off and AF set to no higher than 4x. unless your computer sucks arse...

What resolution are you running though? 1024X768 or 1280X1024?
