weird computer problem plz help

hey guys
i am running a p3 733 on a bh6 with 256 mb ram , ibm 75gxp and running win98se. recently i noticed that for some odd reason. wehnever i restart or turn on my computer. it would freeze at the win98 loading screen. i have to restart the com several times before it would actually go past the load screen and load the os. i downgraded my com to 550mhz and the problem still exists. plz help

My PC does that sometimes. It will usually start with no problem, but every once in a while, it I will have to restart it a couple of times to get it past the windows boot screen. I'm using windows XP though, which I suspect is part of the problem since it never did it with win2k. The only common component we have is an IBM hard drive. Mines a 60GXP though. Maybe it is a sign of the hard drive crapping out. I don't know, but I can live with it as long as it only happens every once in a while.
