So the other day my coworker (white) brought her kid to work (half black), turns out his dad is African (not sure what country) and my coworker was once married to an Indonesian man.

That's rare, not a coincidence. If the kid is going to the same school that Obama went to, that would be a real coincidence. If Obama showed up at your workplace the same day, that would be a coincidence. If there was a cloud shaped like Obama's head the same day the kid was born, that would be a coincidence.
