Weird Centrino throttle problem

WHen the power management is set to Max Battery, the mhz jump from 598 to 794, or to 1500mhz, it does not stay at a fixed mhz. This has never happened before. ANyone have any input on this?
I want the throttle to be as low as possible while on battery.
I have also seen Centrino 1.3-1.6ghz that can go as low as 274 mhz. How can i do that with my machine?
Nothing i can do in the bios.

The idle power consumpution of the Pentium-M processor is very good, the difference between 600MHz and 274Mhz is probably in the tenths of watts.

Probably use a software overclocking utility like ClockGen and underclock it.

The absolute lowest speed that the Pentium M will clock is 600MHz.
Anything that is reporting lower speeds is incorrect.

ok, after some testing with CPU-Z 1.26 in different power settings, the full throttle kicks when opening apps like word, photoshops, etc, and stays at full when the software requires the processing power, goes back to 600mhz when ide for Max Battery, Laptopl. Now, this function is kinda cool but I want to fix the cpu at 600mhz. I do not want the cpu go faster than 600mhz at all while on battery.
No, i do not want the extra CPU even if it makes it go faster.
How can i do this?

If you do not have a power management program other than windows power profiles.
Then I would suggest a program like
SpeedSwitchXp It will allow you to set the CPU so it will not go above the 600Mhz mark while on battery.

Eh, if you want to do it a clumsy way, you can disable speedstep in the bios, which will keep the freq at 600mhz, youll have to restart it to change it though, kindof a hassle.

SpeedswitchXP rules! It's all ya need unless you want to OC then use clockgen, if your laptop clock generator is supported.

On max battery w/ speedswitch mine always reports around 200 mhz PM 1.6 dothan btw. Is this a known issue of reporting the wrong clock speed?

i had the same problem.. but it went away after a while. In the meantime, the cpu was at 600mhz. I confirmed this by using CPUID and system info in control pannel.
