So recently I've been having some weird problems with my CD Drives (burner and DVD) in Windows XP. They work fine, but after a while of having windows running, they suddenly stop recognizing that there are CDs in the drives. Nothing except rebooting seems to work. It didn't do this before, it's a recent problem. I ran XP for a couple of months up weeks at a time with no problem. Thanks.

I had problems with that Creative Labs DVD player, it caused very similar problems for me. Since then I have moved to an Asus ATA66 DVD and have had no problems at all.

Yes, this seems to be a rather common issue in WinXP. It's usually some software that you install that causes this. The only method I've found of correcting this is reinstalling XP. Easy CD Creator will do this (unless you install the XP update from Roxio's web site). Some other software may do this. For this reason, I prefer to use most of XP's built-in features.

Hmm, I'm going with the software installation thing. I installed a bunch of new stuff lately, and that's about when the problem started. Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can figure out which software app it was, that will be the fun part :)
