Weird Car Sound - Can Anyone Identify?

My GF has a 1986 Mercedes Benz 560 SEC. Shortly after starting it, there is often a loud clunk in the area of the right wheel well. It only happens once and that's it until the next time you drive the car.

Any idea what this is? My theory is it is something to do with the fuel pump, but I don't really have any evidence for or against...

It might have something to do with the steering gearbox and linkages, or it has something to do with thermal expansion, perhaps a heat shield on the exhaust system.

If it is a heat shield, are saying it is like a sheet of metal popping as it goes from covex to concave?
