weird boot up screen

I just installed an 8800gts g92, and right when I booted up my computer the boot up screen looked all fuzzy and washed out. It looks like there are tiny lines in a grid over my screen. It looked the same when I got into windows. I have Vista btw. I uninstalled my old ATI drivers (I know I should have done this before installing the card), and installed the nvidia drivers. Reboot. Boot screen still ugly, but Vista looks back to normal.

Any clue as to what is going on? Will resetting my CMOS do anything? I don't want to reset everything and have to OC my rig with a screen that is barely legible. Thanks in advance for the input.

Try a BIOS flash and also is ur PSU rated OK for your new card??

You should have removed the ATI drivers before installing the card. Now uninstall the Nvidia drivers then enter into safe mode and use drivers sweeper:

to remove all the ATI and Nvidia drivers that are left over. Then reboot and reinstall the Nvidia drivers. Reboot again.

If this doesn't help you, I guess you should reinstall windows.

Why on earth should he be doing a bios flash? The card is working fine, he just installed a Nvidia card on ATI drivers and that is the "only" problem. A bios update wont help him.

Dude there are no drivers involved at the black boot up screen!!! The computer performs POST why would it need graphics drivers at that time??

yeah i would say that your power supply is not powerful enough. i had a similar problem before but got a more powerful power supply later and the problem went away. i agree that this has nothing to do with drivers because one would still be able to see the beginning boot up screen without a hard drive connected. so in the beginning no drivers are really used

I agree that the drivers might not be involved, even though he used a 8800 GTS card on ATI drivers, but still, the bios update has nothing to do with this. If his motherboard has problems with PCI-Express 2.0 cards, the computer will simply not boot.

I have a corsair hx620, and I don't have much hardware in my rig so I don't think its a power issue. I guess I'll just go ahead and reboot my mobo. I'm at work so I'll update late tonight if I get to it.

No, resetting CMOS is not Updating BIOS. Go to your Motherboards Manufacturers website and look for a BIOS Update, Download it, follow directions. Hopefully there's a Windows based Updater available to make it easy.
