Weird BIOS (?) issue

Just built a spankin-new system, with an an out-of-the-box new Intel D875PBZ and a P4 2.8HT ... everything is wonderful, except for a strange BIOS notice I get every time I boot it up.

After the Intel splash screen, I get the following error message:

"cmos/gpnv checksum bad"

It asks me to enter setup, and everything seems hunky-dory, including time/date, so I proceed to Windows.

But once there, the machine has the year set as "12004." I can reset it, but it always reverts back to 12004.

Moreover, it seems to prevent certain programs from running, like anti-virus updater, etc.

I have reset the BIOS to all defaults, flashed the BIOS, pulled the battery out, etc... am I missing something?

Moreover, Intel has not been very helpful - should I be surprised by that?

Have you replaced the battery? A dead battery would not save the settings. If a new battery doesn't help at this point, I would think you have a defective board.

I have the same problem with a Intel D865perl motherboard.
I have done all of the above and still no go.

Weird, However, try loading Defaults in bios/ save em, and going right back to bios and check the date. If its still there, I cast my vote for a bad bios chip :(

I did a check of the motherboard voltage reading from the BIOS and one was low and the rest were at nominal.
The one that was low was the 1.5 volt it was at 1.43 if that makes a difference.

Yeah, it does, sounds to me like you are running a Prescott chip.. you will more than likely need a new bios if so,(flash).

Already did a flash of the bios no help......
I am wondering if the power supply is the problem.
