Weird BIOS issue

So I was doing a clean install of vista with new hardware. I tried booting from the DVD and it kept telling me to insert a bootable disk.

In the BIOS, I saw the burner correctly identified. It is the only IDE device (the hard drive is SATA). Everything was set to auto (detect and access mode). It was noted as the master, which is also correct (jumper set correctly on the drive).

Finally, I changed the access mode from AUTO to LARGE.

The OS would then boot fine and everything seemed to install correctly and work.

But the drive spins faster and is REALLY loud when it stops. It sounds like its breaking.

Any ideas about whats going on? Should I leave it on LARGE?

once everything is loaded and the pc is booting from the HD i would change the mode for the optical drive back to auto, or whatever it was before. and just remember that fixed it if you ever need to boot from that optical drive again.

Thats kinda what i was thinking...but why would it need to be Large in the first place? From everything I've read that just matters for HD's
