error msg: 'CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - Software Menu'

mb: abit ic-7
ddr: mushkin, 1 gig

it appears at boot up, just after the last IDE device is recognized. i've never tampered with the
soft menu. no overclock, ever. it gives me the options to either skip through (f1) or swing
through abit's soft menu (del). look through the soft menu options. nothing unusual. nothing
ever changed by myself. numbers are fine.

the system functions fine when i skip into the window xp - home edition - os.

so what does it mean, if anything ?
