Many would recommend against using gloves because it doesn't encourage you to get wrist strength as much (they are quite grippy). This is the same reason why many don't use straps. I use straps if I'm doing heavy deadlifts or shrugs, but my wrist strength isn't as good as it should be. I've seen pics of powerlifters deading more than anybody here can without the aid of straps. They do help control the weight, but they definitely aren't a necessity.
I seriously doubt anybody thinks SpeedDemon is a pussy when he benches 335 lbs at only 5'6". It's all a matter of preference. I guess if you go to the gym to strut like a Rooster then what other sweaty mens think of you is important.:roll: But if you go there to get in shape and improve your physique all you should care about is the results.
