Weight Problems Contagious? Study Suggests Viruses May Cause Obesity

Scientists injected three different human viruses -- called adenoviruses -- into chickens. The chickens injected with one of the viruses, Ad-37, developed two to three times more body fat than chickens without the viruses, despite having the same diet. However, the chickens? weight didn?t differ much in the brief trial

While this may be true, my guess is that this bit of information will be misused as yet another way for people to avoid taking responsibility for their own well-being.

Yes but think of the implications - if we created a retrovirus, we could solve the obesity problem. Although, it would create an outbreak of ultraskinny people and starve out the human reace.

Its a fair trade.

😉

I love how people always place blame on others. Reminds me of elementary report card "Does not take responsibility for actions"

I'll second that. We already have all these fatty, fat, fats claiming they have a slow metabolism. In fact their problem is that the can't keep their ass of the sofa and their hands away from their mouths.

If a virus was the cause of a surge in obisity, why is stomach stapling/bands so effective?

They aren't effective long term. I think over half return to their former weight or worse within a decade.

Overeating causes obesity. There may be many reasons a person wants to overeat. I'm not at all surprised that a virus would be one of those causes. But the solution is still the same. Stop overeating.

That's my point, it's all intake and output. Any other reason wouldn't explain the effectivness of this procedure. The reason it works for years, but not forever is the stomach will reshape (enlarge) itself over time.

Heisenberg, I will repent by posting 3 inane/unintelligent posts. Acceptable punishment? 😀
