I wanted to share some shoes I recently got for the gym that I really like. They are flat soled, inexpensive and I wear them sans socks with no problem. Very comfortable and give you a very good sense of where you are distributing weight on your feet. This would just be another option to Chuck Taylors.

In some of those pics the rubber looks kid of convex on the bottom; like it's a little rounded. Is that the case? If so I'll pass... Hard to find any shoes for $15 these days though...

Some in the minimalist running community have taken to wearing these. They're apparently good for parkour as well.

IMHO people spend a lot of time figuring out shoes for lifting and very little for running.

In the end the average gym rat could get by in any type of shoe, but even a casual runner can develop a ton of problems in the wrong shoe.

On my leg days I do like Chuck Taylor for bang for buck. In the beginning I'd wear my more expensive martial arts/wrestling shoes.

Things like Nike SHOX and air systems are problematic when pushing 5+ times what a normal man weighs.

It depends on if you're going to use them for regular gym powerlifting stuff or if you're going to use them for Olympic weightlifting. If you're just gonna do major compound lifts (no Olympic lifts), you can use any shoe with a hard, flat sole. If you're going to be doing Olympic weightlifting, you're going to need to buy Olympic weightlifting shoes, which have hard soles and a raised heel. Also, buying shoes online is a bad idea, especially for athletics. You need to know how they feel before you use them or you may very likely buy the wrong shoes.

I'd have a hard enough time buying jeans or shirts online, let alone shoes.
