Weight lifter question: How much whey protein should i be taking?

Hey guys, i'm starting to lift weights and i need to know this. I remember reading somewhere that there is a certain ammount that you should take and at different times of the day, but i lost the article! Here's my stats: 210 pounds, 5'11" tall. Thanks in advance!

There is a bit of debate on this.

Personally, I take between 1.5-2 grams per pound of bodyweight.

So if you're 210 pounds....300-400 grams. Yup, it's a lot! :)

is that all muscle? i'm 5"11 and only 160lb. unless your workouts are pretty extreme, i don't think you need suppliments. just eat healthy

At a minimum, consume 1 gram per pound of lean muscle. Lean is calculated by finding your bodyfat %, calculating your bodyfat and then subtracting it from your total weight. Also, you should aim for a 55%-30%-15% Carb-protein-fat breakdown in your meals.

edit: I assume you are trying to lose some weight.

it's good to help you increase lean muscle mass, promote weightloss/fat, and it helps tissue recovery. keep in mind that it is by no means a miracle supplement, a simple test to see if you're getting too much protein is if your pee smells like tuna...speaking of which tuna is chalked full of protein which I highly suggest you eat. Lift heavy and eat clean, best of luck.
