In canada it's 2 years warranty for the Panasonic and 1 year for the sony, or at least that's the warranties that Sears offers for them. (i work there)

Same here. May possibly get a Grand Wega II in the near future.

Edit: I had the predecessor to the Tau, the GAO and it went bad on me in 1 year. No Panny TVs for me.

Yep, and I've got the receipt to prove it. I bought a 27" Wega for $499 towards the beginning of Nov. I bought a set of component vid. cables with the TV and the warranty. They put the entire bill (including tax) on a no interest financing for 24 months plan.

I couldn't believe that they would sell me a 4 year warrantee for $60 either, but they did.

His friend's Mitsu must be set up poorly. My 55" Mitsu is the best set I've ever owned. Regular TV doesn't look too good, but that's because my set is widescreen and the picture stretches out.

I faced a similar choice recently. After I did extensive research and checked out some of the tubes in question, I went with a JVC I'Art Flat Screen. Best damn picture I have ever seen...IMO. I checked this TV out side by side with the WEGA, and the Tau, and the JVC just had a superior picture. The Theater Pro mode is excellent as well as the 16 x 9 viewing mode that let's you get the full resolution on a 16 x 9 DVD and doesn't waste scan lines on the black bar area. I'm sure many will disagree with me...but I'm happy.

I went through the same thing a couple of months ago when choosing a TV for my bonus room. I wound up going with the Toshiba flat screen 32". It was the same price as the lower-end 32" WEGA and offered better inputs. The pictures were basically identical. I have been very happy with Toshiba TVs (I have a 57" 16:9 downstairs).

And put it next to a decent RPTV or direct view...

Plasmas are nice; there's nothing else you can hang on a nail, but they're not the best image.

I have compared, and the only RPTV that comes close is the Toshiba 57" LCoS. Loewe's 38" Aconda is the best direct view, but still not better than the Fujitsu.

But whatever, if you're not a hypocrite and have already done the comparison yourself, then you're entitled to your opinion.

It's all subjective, isn't it?

I have no idea where I could even FIT a 60" plasma TV in my apartment, let alone how I could afford it!

I did see a Pioneer 52" incher at my local Wiz store, though. Absolutely amazing. If I had the $10,000 to blow on it, I would have bought it!

You guys need to look out for rear-projection GLV displays. The potential to be inexpensive and to own all other technologies out there...
