Weekly DC Stats - 18JUL2021

Hi all,

first off, several of the TeAm are running in the PrimeGrid World Emoji Day Challenge (GFN-17-Low subproject) which started last afternoon/ last night and goes on until Tuesday, July 20, 22:00 UTC (18:00 EDT, 15:00 PDT). I am way behind at the end of the top 30 myself — gonna have to switch on some more of my computers, and pause CPDN for this quick race too.

But now to past week's stats:

• The TeAm dropped one place in NumberFields@home, but we gained one place in Latinsquares (ODLK1), and re-gained one place in Van Der Waerden Numbers. Is math not that hard after all? Actually, our current PrimeGrid challenge performance, which is not yet reflected in the weekly stats, makes it look as if math is pretty easy.
• This past week we were the top producing team at three projects at once: CPDN, iThena, and NanoHub.
  (We could have been top producer at ODLK too, but PDW of OcUK is killing it there. Or killed it there; maybe he completed his mission now.)
• Our total weekly production in Folding@Home dropped like a stone; it's just 54 % of the 537 M which we had last week. And yet the TeAm rank for weekly production only went down from 23 to 24. So I suppose that this large drop in weekly credits also affected other teams. I'll have to go look what happened at F@H later today, or maybe one of our Folding regulars can explain.

Err, what? Just now I fetched the stats page once more and now it says

TeAm total for the week - 717,233,557

and there are much increased per-user credits as well.

However, our regular team page at FreeDC shows 541,322,253 in the "Last 7" column.

EOC stats shows 616,259,537 as "Last 7 days" value right now. I tend to think that this value can be trusted more.

After a quick look, I saw 3 update cycles at zero for everyone so the results are borked somewhere along the line. Just need to wait it out I would say.

At EOC? This would be explained by a server move and should have been normalized at the update right after the gap of three.

Server Move Successful! 07.17.21, 5:40pm CDT

As you can already tell since the site is back up, the server move was safe and successful.

It was booting back up right at 6am, so I went ahead and manually ran an update. Since then, all update cycles have been automatic.

The three missing updates, with the subsequent spike where it caught up, will cause a slight ripple in graphs and such but should smooth out in a week or less.

Just in case "10 million ahead" ( ) isn't enough for you, you could always grab a raspberryy pi or... 6. Each one puts out about 12,000 points per week, so 6 pis (about 27 watts) would almost put you at parity production wise.

The pis can use any Linux as far as I know, but I recommend Raspbian Lite if all your doing is DC.

4GB pis run about 55 for the bare board, but require some extra configuration to always run Rosetta on 4 threads. The 8GB model is 75, but the extra Ram masks Rosetta less likely to give you headaches. By the time you add SD card, Case, power supply, 75-100 each is a decent ballpark, depending on which model you choose. If you deploy them in groups, you can cut the per unit cost down some by buying stacking cases and multi port power supplies.

i can provide guides on equipment list and Linux configuration if desired.

Pis are low power, but not the most efficient given they are 28nm manufacturing process.

in points per watt, a pi 4 is about equal to a 5950 in eco mode. The nice thing is a single pi 4 is very low power draw, so you can run the whole pi (or several) for less power than the idle power of a 5959. That said, you need a lot of pis to equal the same points per day as a 5950.

I had read your Raspberry Pi thread once (some time ago), and did now again (thanks for that thread by the way very detailed and informative). I like the idea, especially in summer, as with the little heat dissipation there's not so much impact to the room climate.

I thought I had lots of time today, but thanks to you, I'm going to waste a large chunk of that spare time "researching" and will also blow out some more money

They'll thank you for that ...and my point buffer will do so too Endgame's Raspberry Pi hint/idea really is tempting currently, isn't it? I could also place these little units next to the server (i.e. another room) what would be even more beneficial for my room climate.
