I played a bunch over the years. DM'ed too, but mostly for my kids. It's a ton of prep work, and I'm not sure I have the time for it, but I am interested. Ideally, I'd like to just play a pc, but would consider DM.
First question: what platform are we going to use for doing the virtual table top thing? And would this be one time game sesson for several hours, or regular meetings? My primary concern is that I wouldn't want to commit and then not be available. My schedule at work rotates, but I am usually available in the evenings after 8pm PST.
I'd probably be doing ready made modules instead of doing all the work myself. I've played 1ed, 2ed, some 3 and 3.5ed. I've got 4th ed books, but haven't actually played it. I'd be interested in looking at the 5e rules.
I'm not a fan of games where you have to compile a dozen modifiers on each dice roll to get a result. I like games with more roleplaying than rollplaying, and I like to keep the storyline moving.
I'm not a fan of 2 hours of in-character bickering over the price of a sword with the local blacksmith before setting off on an adventure either. I don't mean roleplaying on that level. Keep it simple, the story moving and everyone will have more fun.
I'm also not one of those DMs who is just trying to kill off player's characters. I'm also not a fan of someone who tries to tell me they rolled natural 18s on all 6 stats for their demi-god character. PCs don't have to be superheros to have fantastic adventures, and not every mage can have a psudeo-dragon for a familiar.
So someone with experience in a Virtual Table Top program (preferably free) that works well please make a recommendation. Maybe we can get this ball rolling.
