My little sister Irene flew to LA on Friday to spend Vanderbilt's Spring Break with me... it's wonderful having her here, as I really value every second of the little time I'm able to spend with my family nowadays. For all those living at home or close to your families, I envy you... I see mine about 2-3 times a year for a weekend (when all of us are together), and maybe 1-2 times separately (when my sisters come out to visit me).
Anyhow, here are some highlights from this past weekend:
Dim sum in Chinatown, Shopping downtown, and In N Out on Saturday
Little sister and Nupur, my boyfriend's roommate, ready to eat!
BF teaching his friend Lo (another CS major visiting from UNM) how to use chopsticks
Lo eyeing the chicken feet (fong-tsap, "dragon claws" in Cantonese)
And the chicken-feet eating commences!
Lo realizing he just ate a chicken foot
BF and me, chicken-foot-free
Post dimsum hug... my little sis, me, and Nupur
Eating Chinese pastries afterwards (creme roll and cake)
Irene in Chinatown
Sis and me playing around with straw hats and imitating rice paddy girls
Irene posing for a cheesy pic with a pink parasol
Nupur follows suit
Picture of a cute little girl playing with firecracker snappers (you throw them on the ground and they pop)
Eating at In N Out after shopping at Sawtee Alley (downtown LA fashion district)... no 20x20's were ordered
Beach and food shopping on Sunday
Irene at Patrick's Roadhouse on PCH
Me and Irene smiling
BF and me pre-food
Obligatory mushy pic
The boys at the beach
Me and BF at the beach
Forgot to change the size of this pic
Shopping for red wine vinegar at Ralph's (featuring my weird hitchhiker's thumb)
Irene searching for asiago cheese
Action shopping pic
Downtown LA, driving back home (blurry)
Blurry buildings
The creme sauce (with sun-dried tomatoes)
Mandarin orange, toasted almond and gorgonzola cheese salad
Irene cutting chicken with a butter knife
In summary:
- If you're looking for a fake Gucci purse or bootlegged copy of "The Passion of the Christ" for $5, go to the Fashion District in downtown LA on Saturday.
- It is possible to substitute sharp white cheddar cheese for asiago cheese.
- Cutting a red onion with a dull butter knife sucks.
- Chicken feet should be a staple of any well-rounded Asian brunch.
That is all.
