Outstanding man
make sure you take some time to yourself and get your head straight.. and mentally prepared for the head games that are about to start.. thats even more important than being physically ready..

All the best My friend you can do it..
AT2 Jason A Pope USN

what are the head games that go on? (just watched Full Metal Jacket, so my perception may be a little skewed 😛)

thier job is to break you down mentally and reprogram you to think the way they want you to..
you will no longer be an individual you will be a part of a company and everything you do affects that company..
The entire reason for bootcamp is mental and physical preparation for service..
and from my experience that is the most difficult part..
the Physical is the easy part..

It's exactly like a fraternity. Don't forget that the instructors HAVE to yell at you, not necessarilly that they want to. Think of them as having one long acting job that they have to do to stay employed. You'll be alright.

Best of Luck!

1. Thank you for your service.
2. Make sure your GF gives you some "I may never see you again as I am going off to war" sex
3. Good Luck!

Seriously the best advice is to never be a standout, never do anything to get the DS's attention. Fall in line, do your work, and you'll be fine.

My DS asked me, on graduation day when he was saying personal goodbyes, if I had been in his platoon the whole time. I knew then it was a mission successful.

I second the "One day at a time" suggestion. A LOT of mind games. Modern basic military training is much worse than Full Metal Jacket, fyi. Be ready to work at least 16hrs/day every day during Basic.

It has been a while since I saw FMJ but are you saying that modern boot camp is harder than it was 1965-1970? I know quite a few people who would strongly disagree with you.

what's the odds for u being shipped to combat? (like iraq)

rumor has it, my unit might go in March/April to relieve the rest of my unit who's currently over there now.

Let us know, ASAP! We'll all pitch in and get you some nifty body armor! RossMAN will find a deal on high grade steal/cerametal, and then we'll get the engineers here to make the mods!
