Weddings. To women it's the most important day of their lives; to men it's like a big party??

Of all of my friends and family that have gotten married, it always seems as though the guy could care less about the wedding arrangements/invitations/wedding dress/tux/cake/church/guest list/etc. It's kinda like, "I'll do it for you baby...anything you want."

OTOH, the women make it out as being the second coming of Christ ;) A friend of mine recently got married...parents paid $15,000:Q:Q:Q:Q Ughhhhh.

This just came to mind b/c I recently saw a rerun of Friends where Chandler asks Monica "You want to spend my whole life savings on one big PARTY???" ;)

for some women, the wedding is the ultimate manifestation of a princess fantasy.

yep i'm getting married and it's going to be close to that. living in a city is expensive to have a wedding.
however i had a lot of say in the wedding. of course my fiances mother almost cut my bullz off for it.

i wouldn't compare mine to a big party

i looked at it more like a dentist appointment, something i had to go through for my own good

With today's 50/50 divorce rate, $15,000 is A LOT IMHO :)

Our wedding was close to 20 grand. And that was cheap compared to some of my friends who've recently gotten married.

Its better for the man to just sit back and let the women take over. You do not want to have any sort of discussion about the wedding especially as the day gets closer and things started getting more stressed. Women turn into Bridezillaa ;)

Heh heh, so true. I've know three guy's that have taken the vows and not one showed any sign of emotion for the wedding. When my cousin was getting married he came over the day of the wedding and played Madden for like two hours, when I asked him why he was not getting ready for the wedding he said "All I have to do is put some cloths and shoes on, say a few words and eat cake bro". Soon after his wife to be called asking where he was in a panic and I gave him the phone and he said exactly this "chill out, I'm just playing football with Brian". She was PISSED :p.

$15k+ is a lot of money imho. If its going to be some of my money spent on the wedding, I'll be damned if I dont have a say in something.

hehehe..my friend is going to propose soon

friend: yah, picking up the ring tonight from the jeweler.
me: cool, think she'll like it.
friend: she better like it! I could have a 65" inch HDTV in my house + money in my pocket if I didn't have to buy this damn thing

is it really necessary to fork over tens of thousands of dollars to prove two people love each other and want to be together forever (ring, party, ceremony, etc)?

(3 year anniversary coming up with g/f...getting marital thoughts....like the savings account the way it is right now)

To my wife, it was the most important day of her life. Fortunately, it was not that expensive, and she was very happy with it.
For me, it was the most nerve-racking day of my life. It was horrible. 100X worse than a job interview. Not that I regret it at all! I'm very happy that I went through with it. But it was the most stressful day of my life so far.

My brother is getting married to his girl July 12th. I can say that the wedding is going to be quite a bit more than 15k, since I am paying for a good portion of it because my future sister in law's family does not have much money. It's their day; whatever I can do is cool with me. Besides, I could always use another indentured servant. ;)

I'll tell you... I've been to one party that beat the party my reception turned into. After about 2am, things went nuts.

hmm, for $15K-$20K, we can either have:
1. A new car (or most of a new car)
2. A reasonable down-payment on a house
3. a wedding (ceremony: 20mins - 1.5hours; reception: 4-8hours; total: 12 hours, tops)

hmm, what would I choose??? Can you say "Justice of the Peace works for me!!!" ;)

p.s. for the record, I think our wedding was around $15-20K too

My brother spent $199 on the engagement ring.

As of this moment, I have about $14900 in company stock to throw into this once-in-a-lifetime-black-and-white party. It's all good though, you usually make back most of it in gifts (cash, etc.). And what does she get? A ton of pics for memories. I think it's like the nice engagement ring that would make a girl feel good - this event is the cherry on top. It's all good.

T-minus ~500 days for me...

Weddings are EVERYTHING to a woman. You should see that movie Just Married.

Brittany Murphy's character: "Having a princess wedding was my fantasy" (flashback to little girls dressed up throwing flowers with one little girl walking). "Didn't you ever have fantasies?"

(Flashback to little boys sword fighting with star wars theme in the background)

Ashton Kutcher's character: "yeah...I guess."
