wedding rings

In the market for a matching set and we were planning on platinum until we actually sat down with a jeweler. > $1k for both nowadays ? Another jeweler mentioned platinum is sky-high because of "the new law". (Whatever that means).

Anyway, what do you married guys have and how much if you recall ?

There are many factors like plain vs. custom vs. comfort-fitted... I think my budget is down to $500 now. Any pointers ? We're fine with white gold but does it really become faded after a few years ?

Anyone have more info. on the "new law" wth?

I'm also looking for wedding rings but right now we're still stuck with the engagement ring 😉 ... after talking to some jewlers I don't see the point in platinum ... from what they're telling me, the durability is almost the same and the plat has a duller look.

Anyone heard of Titanium wedding rings?

White gold can start turning yellowish in color within a year. They can "redip" it and turn it white again. Another factor is the softness factor. Gold is way softer than platinum. But if you are on a budget, get the white gold. The 2mm for me was about $250. The 4mm for him was about $600. This was about a year ago.

Edit: Prices above was from the local Jaread's store from a year ago. The stores in the mall were WAY WAY more expensive.

my wife and i got platinum bands for a little under $1,000. the set we got was about as simple as you can get. its just a plain ring, with no design on it or anything.

White gold is not just yellow gold with a plating, it has different alloys that give it the "white" color. A lot of times WG is plated with rhodium, that is probably what you're thinking of regarding the wear.

I have some white gold and I like it, I don't have plat though so can't honestly make a comparison.

mine is plat, paid ~$700 for it, the msrp was ~$1100. I got this ring when plat price was around $450/oz, I think it is around $850/oz now, it was over $900/oz awhile ago. My ring is on the heavy side (relatively speaking anyway) at about 11g = 0.35oz. So the material cost was only ~$150 back then, the rest was for the ring maker and store markups!

My band is titanium and I got AWESOME service from http://www.boonerings.com - he customized it (basically blended two styles together) and I received it just 4 days after ordering it. Plus, it's cheap. For my fiancee's plain band, we just got it at BlueNile (used a coupon, too 😛).

had ours custom made. the platinum itself was around 600 last month. with the design and everything it worked out to about 1000 per ring. very happy with the result. neither of us likes gold at all.

My fiancee's is yellow gold, it's a matched set. The wedding band part is very thin, shaped for fit in the engagement part, which is thicker and is a 6 prong mount with 38 points of diamond. I only paid about $200 for the setting, because she insisted on yellow gold and liked the thinner sets because her fingers are small. The stone was a .58 carat H/SI1 round brilliant, EGL cert., I haggled the whole thing in under 2k.

I have a titanium band and really like it. It's very light, and indestructible. I don't feeel it at all! The only drawback I see is that they cannot be resized. The are milled from a solid cylinder of aircraft grade titanium. Very shiny, and not terribly expensive.

My mom has a white gold wedding ring that still looks great today, even though it's almost 30 years old. 🙂

I got my little lady's engagement ring from Blue Nile but decided to involve her in picking her own wedding ring. We went to a lot of local shops. The people in the shops made a fuss over her engagement ring, but none seemed to have ever even heard of Blue Nile.

In the end I'm going back to Blue Nile. We're looking at the $350 2.5mm comfort fit platinum for her (the non-comfort fit 2mm is $190 (compare that to the white gold ring price above)) and the $550 5mm platinum for me.

No tax, free shipping, free resizing, very friendly and knowledgeable people on the phone, free returns within 30 days.

Sweet... what about adamantium?

I've got a plain white gold wedding band and my wife has a white gold engagement and wedding ring set. We've been married for almost 3 years and our rings are still quite shiny, although my ring has gotten a bit scratched up. A little buffing and cleaning at the jewelry store does go a long way, though.

I can't recall now just how much we paid for our rings, though. We did get them at Zales, however.
