Wedding question

I got invited to a friends wedding in august. He invited me and a guest. Well im single, so it puts me in a weird situation. I have a couple of girls i could ask that ive known for a long time that dont know my friend and his g/f that are getting married. They wont know a soul that will be at this wedding and i will know everyone. I dont really want to babysit and worry what my date is doing and if shes not feeling awkward.

Is this common? I never been invited to a wedding while single, so this is very new to me. Do i have to suck it up and take someone that wont know anyone? I know i'd have a good time regardless, but i dont want to just take someone just b/c he added a guest for me. Should i just tell him i'm gonna go alone?

but it cost him for that extra person. I mean with my luck i'll rsvp for 1 and want to bring someone by august.

The guest invite was a courtesy. You do not have to take one.

You don't have to take a guest. If you can't find a girl then just don't take anyone.

I cant find a girl that is good with people she never met, thats the issue. All the girls i know like somehow get a cork in their mouth when around people they dont know. But wont shut up when we're with friends.

Hmmm..... Maybe you could introduce the girl to your friends, prior to the wedding, so that she might feel more comfortable on the day of the wedding.

Yeah! The good thing is that you will have a girl you like as a date and hopefully she will be more comfortable in the situation.

That's what my gf did. Actually I became close enough to these people that they invited me to the bachelor party. Now my gf had to go to Thailand on an sort of emergency, so now the "guest" is going alone! haha
