During the wedding, grab the DJ's mic and announce that you're celebrating your kid's first birthday. Bring out a small cake for your kid and have everyone sing happy birthday. Your attention whore sister in law will shit a fit and can't do anything or she'd look horrible.

This is my favorite solution so far! It ranks highly on the RevengoMeter (TM)

leave the kid with the grandparents

they get to be there for the first birthday

you get a weekend without the kid

double win

(really, who wants to travel cross-country with a 1-year old anyways?)

You have won the internet genius award for the day.

Their reason is crap.

Was the birthday party planned first? If so, I would not bother going to the wedding. My wife and kids come first.

If my sister in law was jealous of my wife and I, I would keep my kid's birthday party.

fuck that stupid whore.

My kid is only about 100000x more important than some conniving, manipulative redneck sister in law, and even more so than her shitty white trash wedding.

And, what is wrong with all you saying the kid won't know or care? Dimwits. It has nothing to do with that at all. The whole point was to talk about how awful a person OP's sister-in-law is. You all would blow off your own child's first birthday party for some trailer wedding? Yea right. Weddings fucking suck anyway.

OP - if you stand your ground and find a way to stick it to your asshole sister-in-law .... good on you.

Maybe your sister in law is screwing with you but the course is clear. Nix the birthday party. Why does a 1 year old kid even need a birthday party? He/she doesn't. Having one is just frivolous nonsense. Go visit your parents a little later. What's more - with anniversaries and birthdays and whatever else events that people have in their lives, it's impossible to schedule a wedding that doesn't coincide with SOMETHING. Honestly a birthday party for a 1 year old is no big deal.

Wedding > Birthday and alluding to anything but during conversation with friends/family will have them questioning your priorities.

You really should see a professional about your sense of paranoia. And that is not a flippant, typical ATOT insult. If you honestly think a woman planned her wedding to fuck with a kids birthday party you're either now, or soon will be, a danger to yourself and others.

And why are you this angry over something that doesn't concern you?

I'm kind of worried about you.

Hush you. We haven't had a gang stalking thread in a while.

Parent's can't make the trip (it's in the midwest, we're on the east coast)

I don't know that I've ever heard of people flying multiple states for a birthday party.

For a wedding, sure...but for a birthday party?

Just fire up skype and let them watch you open your kid's presants. It'll be just like they were there.

My sister in law did something pretty nasty and planned her wedding for the same day as our kid's first birthday - I have my theories, but she's always been pretty jealous of my wife and i'm pretty sure stealing our wife's thunder is part of the equation.

The problem is that my mom and dad are in their 70s and 80s (with my mom having week long trips to the hospital 3 times this year) and the guilt is creeping - my mom's pretty crushed that she can't spend the kid's birthday with her, and I love my mom a hell of a lot more than my selfish sister in a law. Since my parents are too weak to make the trip across country to the wedding, what would you do? We've canceled birthday plans but now it's just digging into me, it being completely unfair that my parents have to miss out on their granddaughter's big day. For some background on my feelings re: my sil - I'm a blue state liberal minority, she's red state country subversive racism. I don't care for her, but of course adore my wife.

I hate being the stick in the mud and don't like family drama, but I"m fairly certain they booked the dates with a bit of spite and dont want them to get away with it
Immediate family comes first!! Sister in law is NOT immediate family!!
Parent should always come first!!
