This is my first post in this so called mosh pit. Go easy on me :D

I was thinking today: As an entrepreneur who owns and runs a couple of websites does the Canada's new stance on internet and it's cap mean some websites will eventually block Canadians?

Thinking about it a lot bandwidth used while web browsing goes towards fancy flash ads. With more and more people blocking ads, and ads being some website's main source of revenue would that cause these websites to block canadian users?

Why would the website block a consumer?

A lot of websites DEPEND on ads to stay alive / make money. All of my sites are like that :\.

I'm not saying I would because Canada is my 5th highest source of hits. It was just a thought

What? I believe only 1 ISP is imposing new Lower limits(20gb from what I heard) and they're still plenty high for Browsing. As a website operator(I assume you are), this wouldn't apply to you, only to your Users.

People are already blocked from websites that cannot sell things to them. Hulu and Showtime are not available in Canada. Comedy Central is not available in Canada either. When you guys post links to Daily Show clips, those links cannot be viewed by people in Canada.

That's Copyright issues. For eg, if someone links ComedyCentral/Daily Show, it redirects to the Canadian Copyright holder/licensee(whatever they called) website where you can Watch it. Still annoying as fuck since it only goes to the Home Page and not the actual Video, but whatever.

I could see a system where it is possible to block sights outside of a country from being viewed by a home country. For instance say something in illegal in Canada or we have legislation in the USA against what is considered illegal activity such as gambling or child porn or selling Pharmaceuticals between countries. The only way we could enforce our laws on the Internet is the ability to block foreign traffic, when necessary. Maybe we should require an international License for trade and or political/social issues.

For instance if people outside the USA are trying to break into a US government or FBI or CIA server, then we could block external traffic. It is kind of hard to enforce anything since real hackers can just use a server or a workstation in some other country. In reality we want interaction between countries, but we also need a way to block traffick from Terrorists.

Funnily enough, my Cap has recently(haven't checked in over a year, so "recent" is a relative term) been raised from 30gb to 75g and I didn't even ask for it nor did my ISP even mention it.

Do your websites use really big fonts and lots of small words? :awe:
