I'm redesigning the website at work; please give me some suggestions.

Old Website

Proposed Redesign

Here are the restrictions:

No javascript, nothing that can't be read by NS 3.0 (lots of Unix users), no frames, and no CSS. :)

How's it look?

thanks,
Rob

For something that has to be NS3.0 compatible, it's quite an improvement!

Good work ! ;)

Nice job! It definately gives it more character and would make people actually want to look at it, as opposed to the old version.

the new design is a bIG improvement. a couple of suggestions though:
1) consider organizing the text with a summary of contents and links
2) reconsider the content of the first part of the page labeled 'the system'. As an outsider, it isn't clear to me what the purpose of that section is. Are you trying to simply describe the system, Are you trying to describe how to use the system, etc...? Since hte page it self is labelled COMPUTING, I was expecting a more detailed description of how to use the system.

Anyways, summary, I think the design is great, but the organization and clarity of the content could use some revamping too.

yamahaXS,

The content will completely be rewritten. I was just fishing for advice on design. Thanks, though. :)

Looks much cleaner and better organized. A thought -- you might want to use a san-serif fonts as most serif fonts doesn't look so good when published on screen and is harder to read. Also, use simple, short sentences and list/bullet points as much as possible. Most people today don't have time to read through pages of text. Just get straight to the point.

There, I updated it again. Check it out. What is there right now is the basic concept; links, etc., aren't working as I want to get the design down before I switch everything over.

The new site has a MUCH better color layout and is much more organized. Great job!
