Invision Board looks kinda cool. Is it easier/harder to install than phpbb? Easier/harder to configure?

No that's not required you could do it like Adul and Rallispec do, through a web hosting provider (like I linked in step 2).

How much can you afford every month?
Hell I run my site outta my house on a 256kb connection, and not that many people bitch about it.. so it can be done.
well here's a complaint.. your forums are down...

he doestn have cable or DSL, he's actually on a wireless connection. They dont even offer that around here, but it sounds really cool. I believe he has a static IP.

when were his forums down, i've been on and off of them all day and never noticed them down.

sweet.. wish i had a static ip and a provider that didnt care about servers.. that would be the ultimate webhost solution.. not having to worry about bandwidth or storage limits... though i doubt ill ever surpass my 400MB storage / 6GB bandwidth allotment at dixiesys..

his forums were down ~12pm when i posted.. looks good now though. 🙂

who is your ISP? i use verizon dsl and so far they've never yelled at me. (granted, i dont transfer very much over my home server... under 100mb/month)

and yeah, i cant imagine going over 6gig with dixiesys either.
(i have a funny story about that though)

at&t broadband.. with tiered pricing starting to show up and rumors of charging more for "bandwidth hogs" (i download my fair share, but from what i read on dslreports, i'm small potatoes compared to others), i'm going to lay low and not risk losing my broadband. i dont think i can take going back to dialup a 2nd time.. 😱

smart man.. better to not risk it. i hadrly use any bandwidth at all.. since this summer i havent downloaded anything big, except for redhat 7.3 and maybe 3-4 mp3's. i've really been slacking off.

I just got owned? how the F am I supposed to help it if the admin of my isp is too lazy to restart the server when it goes down?

I have a static IP and use a wireless type of connection to access the net (it's comparable to dsl and cable only slower...

not really.. thier isnt much you can do until you get online and connected to the database. If you're using PHPBB though, you can get it set up in no time, once you get it online.. Literally takes about 10-15 minutes to get it running. A little longer if you want to do a lot of customizing. either way, its easy.
