is that a problim? is it not possiable on 1 and 1?
I dunno as I've never used 1and1. I thought you were hosting it on a local box and using something like apache. minendo's post says there should be an option in cpanel to do it.

If it is not in cPanel, see if you have a file named .htaccess in your main directory. If so, make a copy of it on your local machine. Then delete the one off of your webspace. See if that works.

Download it. Open it in notepad and put in the line:

Options +Indexes

Save and upload to replace the original one.

1and1 - repeat after me :)

Since you don't have access to cPanel I'd say .htaccess is your best option.

Which FTP client do you use?

He said it won't let him overwrite or delete the htaccess file...

Your best bet would just to create a html file with all the pics listed.

Can you set up subdomain redirects in your cPanel?

Place all of the pictures in one folder. For example name that folder pics. Set up a subdomain pics.yourdomain.com and have it point to the pics folder.

I don't see how that would fix anything, unless I'm missing something.

Also, I'm sure there is some cgi script (hotscripts.com) that can just list all images in a domain.

Worked for me. In my situation Gallery automatically redirects all traffic to the main page. By setting up a subdomain and pointing it to a certain folder, I was able to get directory listing. None of the other ways would work.
