Website Help! Bunch 'O' Questions

I am a website n00b you could say, i know a good amount, but not nearly enough (obvisouly or i wouldnt be asking these questions) And so instead of filling up OT with these threads (i have no other forum to put them in) i will make one thread asking my questions.

Question 1: How do you make it so that when you move the mouse over one button, or text, sub links appear? know what I mean? If not then here is a good example.

Question 2: when you make a template in photoshop, how do you make links and stuff?

note pad? how do i apply the template i made in photoshop??

anyone know the particular java sciprt? or is that the only way?

#1 - Like orangel said it's a javascript trick. Do a google search, there are different variations of it available online or just view the source of that website you linked to.

#2 - You don't create links in photoshop, you create the images. After that, most people usually chop up the image into smaller pieces and put them back together using tables. Using a WYSIWYG editor would help you a lot with that task. If you're proficient in HTML you can do it by source. Screw notepad though, EditPlus owns.

Learn CSS. It will make your life a lot easier.

Everyone says this, and im going to very VERY SOON (start to, i know rome wasent built in a day) , just one question. I see it everywhere and i haven't the sligest clue what it is. could you give me a description?

if you have photoshop you should have ImageReady bundled with it. just open up the template of your site, and then go to file->Jump To->ImageReady

ImageReady is real simple to use if you want to slice up images, and it also outputs an html document with all the tables and images lined up as you see them in your editor.

CSS = cascading style sheets, they have the file ending .css

Webmonkey - great site for newbs like you, all their tutorials will help you answer any more questions you may have

take your pick.

For your template thingy, open templatename.jpg with a program called adobe image ready (which should have been included in photoshop). Use the image mapping tool and highlight the links. Then click on the internet explorer icon in imageready and it should generate something like this:

CSS are Cascading Style Sheets.

You can basically make a global style for your entire website and use operators to format your page with ease. You may also be interested in the layering options it provides.

CSS will definitely help you with what you're asking. It's also very easy to learn, you could probably be doing what you want to do within a day or two, I was able to.

Yes, you CANNOT do webdev anymore without it. It is a must. Best two resources are w3schools css tutorial, and a simple google search for "css". Read everything you can find in the first page or so of results, and you will know a lot. (It's alot of stuff )
