Website Critque wanted...

alkemyst

No Lifer
I want to do something more with the top. I am doing this site for free for a group that is trying to get our dog beach restored. I was trying to keep some of their look and feel so didn't get too crazy with verbiage edits and rewrites. Some of the wording needs work IMHO.

my link is http://30moons.com/Bark2Pac/index.php

the original site is http://www.Bark2Pac.org

Some of the links (paypal and mailers) are not fully active.

Let me know

The new site is a HUGE improvement over the old one. Good job.

That being said, the website doesn't display in the center of the browser window for me. Not sure if that's just a problem on my end, or a problem with your code.

Had the same issues, was on the left side with a decent amount of space on the right for whatever reason.

Alright, just wanted to see if it was just me or not. The problem should be easily remedied with a little adjustment to the CSS.

EDIT: Dude, inline CSS? FAIL! 😛

It looks like it's got all of the content it needs....looks 'better' then the first site, but it was pretty bad before.

Much easier to read, content is easy to find, not bad.

slow server, it took a while for those pictures to download...downloaded in the late 80's porn fashion..blip, blip, blip, a little more, blip, blip, hhaha. It only took about 5 seconds to download the images, but that seemed a little slow compared to what I look at all day.

nice of you to do it for free!

ditto.

Dont use those ridiculous dog bones for the buttons

For the banner, the font doesnt make any sense and theres a huge lack of contrast between the text color and background. If you're really gonna stick w/ that, at least put a contrast border around the text or something.

I agree. Plus center it.

I can't really tell which is the before and which is the after. They're both very visually offending 🙁

i would get rid of the cheesy wallpaper and change the link colors as well. i agree it looks like a 1995 site

Not a fan of the background and would go with more friendly pic of a dog than the more-than-average aggressive looking shepard mix. When I see that dog, I envision the risks of dog fights and getting bitten with a dog beach, rather than a more positive image of a goofy lab swimming out in the water to fetch a tennis ball.

It's not going to be a site that changes themes at all and will be maintained by a non-programmer so some concessions had to be able to allow ease of editing.

my recommendation: try to base the site on a theme instead of basing it off of dog-bone images😛 Once you have the theme and place holder, THEN go ahead and fill in your palce holders.

ex: http://www.freecsstemplates.org/preview/detachable

Not sure if I understand. The site is not based off images. I based it off the original design. The template you linked looks great but totally not applicable to this site.

There are only a few key functions of this site...too much other content would take the focus away from a vote.

The banner was not a final or even rough draft...more a place holder for thought. I don't even think the text was fully centered on it.

Well dog beach isn't really for just people esp those that are afraid of a shepherd. Dog beach goers do not want aggressive dogs around. Trust me, mine is recovering from a $640 dog bite right now.

The shepherd belongs to the guy that owns the site and started the movement.

server is not the final host plus it was getting hit a bit.

You should probably reduce the filesize of the images a bit - if you have Photoshop, use "Save for Web."

they are pretty small (save the swf on the beach page)...I have not optimized anything yet though as nothing is final.
