Hi guys.

I have a blog that is getting a pretty decent amount of traffic. Around 1k visitors per day. The problem is that the blog is tied to a service. That is to say, there is a website with a product, and this is the blog for that website. So it is a blog related to the subject area that the service relates to.

The problem I have is that very few of the people who are visiting the blog are then going to the website and signing up. (It is a free service)

I have a big link to the home page, a button saying Sign Up (Free), etc.

Anyone have any tips on directing traffic back to the source? I need these visitors to turn into registered users.

Problem is, with a service (especially one that is free), people don't know what to expect -- is it good? Is it bad? Free services, unfortunately, have a bad rap. Some free stuff is great (look at a lot of open source software). Some free stuff really sucks (free sushi with a fill up -- who would eat gas station sushi?).

Anyways, the point being -- is there an incentive for users to try out this service? Also, how EASY is it to sign up? Some places make it real easy to sign up...enter your email, a username, and a password (which is email to you later). That way they don't have to jump through "normal" sign up processes (enter your name, address, birthday, etc)

There is definitely an incentive for a certain demographic to sign up. Thanks for your advice though, it has gotten me thinking.

1) have my signup button create the register form popup instead of redirect to site homepage.
2) On site homepage, get some press quotes about the service and showcase them so people know it has been well received and is a reliable product
