Webmail as default email client for Windows XP

I have configured my Firefox to open up gmail or yahoo mail when I click on an email link on a web page. However, I cannot find a way to change my system-wide (Windows XP) email client to these services. For example, when I select a file and use the "send to" feature, I end up with hotmail/live mail. Or in other cases Outlook Express. There is no other option under the Control Panel|internet Options|Programs|Email and I cannot add any either. Googling indicates that this is possible only if one makes changes to the registry. Can someone please helps?

For Yahoo mail, when you install the Yahoo Messenger client, you can opt to just install Yahoo browser services and mail tools (as opposed to or in conjunction with the messenger client). This will install Yahoo as an option for the default mail client, along with Hotmail/MSN/Live and Outlook Express. But how to do that manually, I don't know.
