Edit: But thank you for the links. They really do sound horrible.

Look you want good advice, probally the best on this forum?

LISTEN TO RossMAN, he has helped me more than I could ever repay him. I listened to him and now I run a very successful website.

He helped me choose Namecheap, Axishost, and SMF. Here are some links:

http://www.axishost.com/ - Cheap reliable site hosting.

http://www.namecheap.com/ - Cheap Domain Registration.

http://www.simplemachines.org/ - FREE awesome forum software, full of options. Lots of mods and hacks. ALL for free.

Currently I am changing to LiquidWeb also due to RossMAN because I need a VPS due to my sites growth. Here is a link:

http://www.liquidweb.com/ I have called them at 3:00am on a SATURDAY and they answer. Very friendly and helfull. I would have not known about them if not for RossMAN.

I recommend that you DO NOT use FREE hosting, if you are going to be running a popular site or really care about the site. It is fine for personal sites or for testing purposes. I learned the hard way. You may even want to consider a Resellers account so you are in total control

ALSO backup your DATA nightly, trust me I learned the hard way.

Remember "WATERDartworthGATE" Ross?

I just can't speak more highly about RossMAN, if you are smart you will listen to him. There are a lot of smart people here on this site but in my opinon when it comes to webhosting no one beats RossMAN, he know how to run sites. In fact one of his sites
gottadeal.com is ranked 26,304 out of the millions and millions of websites.

rossman helps out in every thread related to webhosting (among other things) that pops up nearly every week. he's given you plenty of links to make a very informative decision yourself. insult rossMAN again and the internet police come and bludgeon you to death ;)

oh yeah, i'd stay away from phpbb. their popularity seems to cause them to be the target to hackers, which in turn causes the admin to constantly update with patches.

Ok, I got a site with dartworth to hold me over until i can see if we'll even need anything more than that. I finally got my index to display (I have never done anything with web design before) and now I'm trying to set up an SMF forum. I have absolutely no idea at all where to go or what to do...

Smart move :)

Assuming you've already changed your DNS name servers, login to cPanel, scroll down and click Fantastico then underneath Discussion Boards click SMF and follow the prompts. It should automatically install SMF with a few mouse clicks.
