webhost suggestions needed

While I did some looking around, the multitude of webhosts and the fact they are all trying to get my buck has made picking one hard.

I really need the account for my father's sites which are tired of being moved from ISP to ISP's free space. I don't know if we need more than static serving. Cheap is important. FTP access, no ads. Reliable, you know the basics.

I might play with it more if there were SQL or CGI access. Might want a domain.

Anyone know some good hosts or a roundup review of hosts from a good source, all I get is ad like places when I search.

Sure :)

What's your budget?

How much disk space and bandwidth do you need?

-Want to spend < $100 a year (preferably a lot less :D).
-At least a gig of space
-5 gigs or > per month in bandwidth

To be perfectly honest that's the route I would go. Please remember to download backups frequently!!!

CookieHost for $5 / yr

So I've looked at the suggestions so far, I'm not sure something like cookie host will be here in a few years. That's pretty important as the site is essential does not need updating, and if the host dies then well I have more work again.

A small orange looks flexible, but some googleing shows some people who really don't like it. I'm sure that is true of everything though. Any more suggestions?

Edit: Oh yes 25 dollars for the hosting is most certainly a fine price for me.

AT Hosting isn't going anywhere! Check your email, and the stickied thread.

They seem to have been around since 1998... humm

Well I can't complain of lack of choice.

Steadfast is definitely a reputable provider.
