I was admiring a weber grill at Lowe's today but the price was $379. I thought they were the best quality and the leader of all outdoor barbies. I know that their warranty is pretty good but not sure about Charbroil. I then glanced across the aisle and noticed that an all stainless Charbroil of similar size is $399.

The Weber I am looking at doesn't have the burner but has a longer warranty. The Charbroil also has a nice 99 year warranty (ss parts).

So, I'm interested in your grillin experiences and preferences. BTW, I'm getting gas for sure!

Thanks

Webers are much more desireable, imo.
Char-Broil is way too plasticky that I've seen, and I have first hand experience with a Genesis II lasting 12 years (and still going ;))

Not so sure that applies to an 'all stainless' model...

Curious to see what everyone else thinks.

Right, but their use of cheap materials for lower level grills may transcend to the next price range, even if it is less apparent.

I'd wager that the WEBER will look nicer longer. However, the charbroil probably has some nicer features at that pricepoint... like the side burner you mentioned.

I purchased a commercial ss charbroil grill a few mo's ago... it's holding up ok thus far, but, we'll see.

NOTE: Most of the charbroil grills on sale right now have a recall on the thermometer in the hood. The fixed thermometer has a small hole in the bottom of it to let steam escape, etc. The bad one does not and is prone to 'exploding'. If you get one, check it out, should be a free fix... but does make you wonder about the quality of things.

I bought a webber following people's recommendation, the round one with charcoal.. and I grill with both in my home for summer bbq. Old gas + new webber.. people loved the webber.. even though the time you need to fire up the charcoal plus adding charcoal when it runs low. Webber quality seems great so far..

Another vote for the Weber, as that is what I have. I screwed around with a cheapo for awhile and there's no comparison. I must admit the Charbroil one looks nice, but I doubt it'll last as long as the weber and probably doesn't have even heating like the Weber.

been looking at grills also...still haven't decided between taste of charcoal or the convenience of gas for a grill under $250

I have had some burgers that were cooked on a gas grill with the mesquite chips but i remember they didn't taste as good as charcoal cooked ones...

guess it's time to start a poll...

Just a note, I've got a grill with a side burner and I think it's kind of overrated. It's OK, but I don't use it all that much. Even though it's slightly less convenient, you can always cook stuff on the stove inside. Plus, having the burner there gives you less workspace on which to set stuff down while you're grilling (I would prefer two totally flat areas).

Agree BS, the weber I'm considering doesn't have the side burner. I too, think they are a waste of time!

Another vote for the side buners are overrated...a rotisserie rack or extra warming racks are nice though

Go with a Weber! Just got the Gold B and it totally kicks butt! I would also recommend the Silver B- rated a best buy by Consumer Reports

I ordered a NG Weber this weekend: Hot Deals thread

FWIW, I have a Charbroil (actually have had 3 of them) and they seem to last between 3-5 years. Just cleaned my current one tonight, the burner has rusted through & the bottom rack is very near collapse from rust, the piezo igniter quit working last fall, and the whole assembly fell off in 4 pieces tonight when I tried to clean it. Probably $75 to rebuild it, and get another 2 seasons out of it.

Even with ~$20 worth of high tech ceramic discs on the bottom grill, it flared like crazy & really fried the bratwursts I was cooking:(

I'm ready to try out a Weber.

THanks PM! I used your code and bought a weber from amazon yesterday. With any luck, it will arrive before the holiday!

The neighbors likes ours so well they purchased on also.
Highly recommened.

Either way, at least you're smart enough to get SS. It took me a dozen years or so to figure that one out... (and 3 or 4 rusted out grills along the way.) I'd always get to the point where the burner rusts out, and it needs another part or two to get it going again for the next season... I price the parts at $50 - $75, see another new grill for $100 that includes a new gas tank, and go for the new tank.

On the other hand, I've got 4 or 5 tanks now, so I fill them all at the beginning of the summer and rarely have to worry about running out of gas. The current grill is SS.
