webdesigning sucks

I forgot to mention why web design sucks, especially when you are starting out. For some reason, people seem to think that web design isn't a technically involved process, and that anyone with a copy of FrontPage or DreamWeaver can create a website. It's a shame, because anyone that works on real websites for a living knows that is far from the truth. It's like someone purchasing a copy of CoolEdit and a CD burner and claiming they are a record producer.

It may not be anyting fantastic, but that site is far from sucking. At least it is a simple, clean design.

Now, if you want a headache, start coding corporate intranet sites, specifically for database and information access. Talk about a pain in the ass. I envy you public website creators 🙂

damn. never thought about that. c++ was bad enough...can't even imagine routing database traffic😱

My main issue with this site has been the CSS. As I said, I was using a premade one, and trying to guess what the hell everything corressponds to is a real PITA.

Agreed. I have the ideas on my head and draw them on paper, but making them a reality is another thign altogether. Hopefully photoshop will help me out.

Have to make the code w3c compliant too😱

Good to hear. It will pay off in the end.

Now, if only web browser creators would do the same... 😛

Honestly, when I read teh topic I thought people were bitching about something that looked like it was from 1996. You have a great start there, don't let idiots tell you it looks bad. Just work the bugs out of the code and you'll be set.

Good start. Are you using two diffrent languages on the site? Be cause the other pages looked german or dutch.

What you will find, is as you add more content then your design will modify itself and inherently be forced to become sometihng better. Good start, just lacks content and a customer driven focus.

I'm a graphic designer, I do alot of work designing websites.

It's not a bad start, you're doing fine.
Don't listen to any comments until you finish it.
You should start off with a design plan before you even open a program.

Not bad for a start. Lose the puzzle graphic and put in something more home renovation related I think. The puzzle gives it some sort of "generic corporate" feel.

If you get stuck on CSS, post over in software. I usually try to respond to those threads, or someone else will chime in. I've been doing all tableless design lately and making everything XHTML Strict compliant, so I'll be happy to help out if you get stuck on something.

If it's a information site then there is no reason to go overboard with junk that does not belong on a site. When looking for information I want speed and concise info.

aye. been hearing that a lot and agree 100%.

Nothing wrong with makign a the sitea little colorful though?😉

I'm mainly a programmer, not so much a designer, but I'd say it's not bad. I've seen much, must worse. That website didn't make me run away, and that's obviously a good thing. Keep trying and you'll make something great; remember, nothing is ever finished, websites are constantly updated and improved.

It's pretty simple. You have to add an actionscript to the button. OnMouseEvent; GetURL.
There are 4 states to the flash button so make sure you add it in the right place.
