If I was a MAC user, it'd be fine -- the iSight has good resolution, good low-light performance, auto-focus, and even puts the cat out at night. What more could I possibly ask?

Only I don't use a Mac. I use XP. And years after its introduction Apple have still shown no interest in adapting it to that market.

So what do we have for Windows? A whole bunch of look-alike cameras all of which claim to be "high-quality", and, as a utility product, writing good reviews is no longer sexy and so, it seems, there is no way of seperating the good from the bad.

Sony make the EVID100P, but at over $1000 its more than just a tad too expensive for me, and I'd rather have USB anyway.

Anyone use real a HQ unit -- high resolution, good in low-light (typical room lighting), and with autofocus? Remote control pan, tilt, and zoom, and face recognition would be pluses but aren't essential.

Recommendations?

if you desire, the isight can be used with PC's. but since apple is no longer making them, the price has gone up.

I've always been a fan of the discontinued 3com Home Connect webcam.
It is still available under a different name, now called Watchport and targeted at banks and other security cam uses.

It is way overpriced and the inter changeable optional extra lenses (3pack wide angle and 2 others)are also pricey.
I've been told that if you find a used 3com model you can use the watchport drivers to make it work with XP
