Can anybody recommend any good webcams? I would like a good quality webcam. I would have to say $100 is my limit. Is that new Logitech webcam 3000 any good? A good picture is important. Thanks to anyone who can help.
 
Logitechs are always a good bet. However, if you can find a 3Com Digotal Camera (the Black one) grab that. They OEM'd from another compnay (which escapes meright now) but the camera was awesome. It could take a completely dark room and make it look like it was 1:00pm on a sunny day, naturally. You even could buy extra lenses for wide angle. Pretty cool for a webcam. The software was just ok but if you pick up CUCME or something like that it doesn't matter. Plus since they discontinued you can probably get one for a song and a dance.

I used to work in research at 3Com awhile back when they got that puppy and in tests it was the best at the time for picture quality. Either way though, Logitech is a quality product.
 
3com sucks. It is a great camera but it doesn't work in Windows XP and 3com has no suppoert for it. I have one and can not use it in XP, I had to buy anohter camera. I bought a Kodak and it works in XP fine.
 
Logitech 3000 Pro is a beauty. Native XP driver support... I bought 5 of them at a good price for all my rigs and they work great. Picture quality varies depending on the lighting, like any webcam. I'd highly recommend 'em. Just don't buy at BB or other retail outlets, they rape ya on price.
 
I don't know about anyone else, but I use my webcam to communicate with friends. Image quality wasn't the discerning factor when I got mine. I don't know what your needs are going to be for it. I don't think that there is any webcam out there that will do very high res, that is printable quality, and if there is, it's kind of redundant because you would need crazy bandwidth to be able to take advantage of it.
If you ask me, and if you're only going to use it to video conference or whatever, you can get any old cheapo cam. I have a logitech quickcam express that I got for 36 CANADIAN .. which is like 23 (around) US dollars. You can't really go wrong with it. But then again, it's up to you how much you want to pay for what level of quality.
A few of my friends got the same and we use them all the time. It's great because emoticons suddenly lose their functionality. 🙂
 
I took a look in Circuit City today while running some errands. The Logitech Webcam Pro 3000 is $99.99. Can I get a better price? What do you guys suggest on the price? Thank you.
 
Here you go.........a Ton of Cameras @ JustdealsI have bought 35 various Logitech "Refurb" cameras from them and not a single problem with ANY of them. I bought 20 of the cheap Express 2 years ago and gave them away at Christmas, they all worked and still work. I use the Logitech QuickCam Web USB 961119-0403 all the time and have never had a problem on Win98/Win2k. Their prices are excellent compaired to Retail.....

By the way I have found that the Logitech Cams need better Lighting than most of the other Cams...
 
I have a 3Com Homeconnect Camera, got it for free, but it does work in XP and its low light capabilities are nice. About all I use it in is netmeeting, and it works well at that.

What do you want to use it for exactly?
